My Story
My journey with bees didn’t really have a big “aha” moment — it just made sense from the very beginning. When I started learning about how important they are, how much they give, and how fragile their world can be, something in me clicked. I wanted to understand them, respect them, and do my part to look after them.
I got my first hive for my birthday, along with a pile of books, and dove straight in. From there came courses, support from local beekeepers, endless questions, and eventually my first nuc of bees. Since then, the hives have slowly grown through careful splits and patient seasons — never rushing, always learning.
From early on, I knew I didn’t just want to keep bees.
I wanted to create something that helped other people feel the same sense of awe I did.
That’s where the idea for DC Hive Products began.
I wanted people to look at something in their home and realise:
“This came from tens of thousands of tiny, hard-working bees.”
Beeswax candles felt like the right place to start. Not mass-produced. Not gimmicky. Something truly connected to the hive.
I imagined a design that created a kind of beekeeping experience:
-
a holder inspired by a hive
-
a candle shaped like comb
-
something that felt like opening a little piece of the apiary
It took a few prototypes — and honestly, I’m still not convinced the final vision is fully there yet. I’m constantly improving, tweaking, and learning. That’s part of the journey.
Through all of this, one thing has never changed:
The bees come first.
I never take anything they need. If they make a surplus, I harvest. If they don’t, it stays with them. That’s why I’ve hardly taken any honey — it’s theirs to get them through winter. One day, if the colonies thrive and produce more than they need, I’d love to share their honey too — but only when it’s right for them.
Over time, this has grown beyond candles. I’ve realised how much I love teaching and talking about bees. I’ve run talks, shared online, and even gave a lecture last year in Millport with the Scottish Women’s Institute. That talk helped pull me out of my public-speaking shell — and I could honestly talk about bees for hours. That’s how I know I’m doing something I truly care about.
Looking ahead, I hope to run more workshops, talks, and events — and help more people across Scotland understand, respect, and be amazed by bees the way I am.
For me, this will always be about care, patience, education — and staying grateful for the little creatures that make it all possible.

Why we do this
Sustainable Practices
Everything we do begins with caring for the hive. By using surplus wax, choosing thoughtful packaging, and keeping things small-scale, we try to make candles that do less harm and a little more good — for the bees and the environment around them.
Community Engagement
DC Hive Products is meant to be shared, not kept to ourselves. I want this to grow alongside the people around it — connecting through local events, conversations, and curiosity about bees and nature. This isn’t just a business; it’s a chance to bring people together, spark interest in wildlife, and support projects that make a difference.
As DC Hive Products grows, staying rooted in the community will always be a core value — learning together, helping where we can, and keeping the bees (and the world around them) at the heart of it all.
Choosing DC Hive Products means you’re not just buying a candle — you’re helping support the bees, the hives, and the work that goes into looking after them.
Our Story
Crafting Natural Candles

Vision & Values
At DC Hive Products, we handcraft pure beeswax candles using surplus wax from our own hives. Our focus is simple: natural materials, thoughtful making, and caring for the bees first. Each candle is made to bring gentle light, warmth, and a closer connection to nature.
